Quick answer: Barbed wire is usually sold by the coil or by weight, and the rate depends on the gauge, single or double strand, the barb pattern, the coil size and the brand. We do not print a rate on this page. Send the gauge, strand type and number of coils and we will call back with the rate.

"Barbed wire price per kg" is one of the most common questions we get. The honest answer is that there is no single price per kg, because two coils with the same weight can be built differently. This guide lists what decides the rate so you can compare quotes fairly.

What changes the rate

  1. Gauge. The common sizes are 12 x 14 and 14 x 14 gauge (about 2.5 mm for 12 x 14). A heavier gauge has more steel in every metre.
  2. Single or double strand. A double strand twists two wires together, so it uses more wire per metre than a single strand.
  3. Barb pattern. Barbs come as 2-point or 4-point. The pattern and the spacing change how much wire goes into a metre.
  4. Coil size. Coils come in 5, 10, 20 and 25 kg packs, depending on type and stock. Packing and availability vary.
  5. Galvanising. The wire is galvanised iron. The coating protects against rust, so it matters most on farms and open boundaries.
  6. Brand. We make barbed wire, and also stock CM, Border and Tata Wiron makes. The rate depends on which one you choose.
  7. Quantity and delivery. A few coils for a farm and a truckload for a project are priced differently. Delivery is confirmed with each quotation.

Why weight alone does not settle it

A 25 kg coil of one gauge and a 25 kg coil of another will not cover the same length. Ask for the length per coil as well as the weight, then compare the cost per metre of fence, not per kg of wire. The fencing quantity guide shows how many metres a boundary needs.
